Lastly, it's important to identify the difference between adaptation and emergent symptoms. Adaptation symptoms usually last a week as the wearer acclimates to the lenses. Most adaptation symptoms should subside in the first few days or even up to a month, depending on duration and frequency of wear. Symptoms include foreign body sensation, mild light sensitivity, redness, mild intermittent blur, mild red eyes, and mild dry eyes. When symptoms present more consistently, we want to be sure to see the patient in a timely manner.
Emergency symptoms would include persistent eye pain, tearing, burning, consistent redness, and light sensitivity.
