Step one continued. If you have an acute problem with more than an uncomplicated issue, if you'll take a look at the top blue row, you will see acute with a complicated injury, acute problem with illness with systemic symptoms, or a chronic illness with exacerbation progression or side effects of treatment, or if you have an acute problem that you're addressing such as an injury or illness that poses a threat to life or bodily functions and depending upon during your examination. If you're able to check that you’ve evaluated any of these during the exam and you addressed those, then you would meet the criteria for either a level four or a level five. You can view the line, the row at the bottom in light blue for those guidelines and that criteria as to what level to code.
