Tonopen

Let’s review the procedure with the tonopen. Have the patient sit tall and straight, have the patient look straight ahead. It’s nice if you give them a reference or focal point to look at. Have the patient breath naturally, blink normally. Let the patient know what to expect, that you will be getting close, and remember to use a new tonopen cover for each patient. Don’t forget to anesthetize the eye and refer to the scripting to educate the patient on what to expect, what the information is used for. Properly discard of the cover. And this test may not be done with contact lenses.
